John's Story
John's Story
John, a 53-year-old self-employed construction worker, was facing an uncertain financial future due to an upcoming operation that would temporarily prevent him from working. Unsure of what benefits he was entitled to, John reached out to Citizens Advice Liverpool for support.

After meeting with a Financial Wellbeing Advice Keyworker, a full benefit check was conducted, and John was advised to apply for New Style Employment Support Allowance (ESA). The Keyworker walked John through the application process.

Understanding that a reduced income could affect John's financial stability, the Keyworker also helped him draft a budget, giving him a clearer picture of how his finances would be impacted during his recovery. Additionally, the Keyworker signposted John to a grant scheme for construction workers, which he may be eligible for, offering further financial relief during this challenging time.
